One quality that makes our new Ford models so popular is that you don't have to look far, or pay more for the features and systems that are essential to life's needs. That might raise some dubious eyebrows of those wondering how a mighty premium-looking SUV like the Explorer could accomplish such a feat--but you needn't look much further than the XLT model for answers. As a matter of fact, our Detroit area customers might just find more value than they expected.

The best part is that the XLT's starting price befits its status as an upgrade from the entry model, but it's equipment goes far beyond. Standard on this trim are a 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine with available AWD and 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. You can also upgrade to a 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four with 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, which delivers exceptional efficiency and acceleration in one package--in spite of being down two cylinders.

And we're still just getting started. Also compulsory on the Explorer XLT are the likes of Sirius XM radio, reverse parking sensors, and SYNC infotainment. You can also find MyKey and a CD player. That's a pretty good start for an SUV in this price range, but add on the fact that you can load the XLT trim to nigh-brimming with premium and safety features galore, and it's time to go wild.

Truth be told, what you can equip on the Explorer XLT is nigh-dizzying. Class II or III trailer prep packages, the full suite of SYNC3 infotainment functionality, and a "Driver Connect" suite with a Wifi hotspot, voice-activated navigation, and smartphone integration are just the tip of the iceberg. XLT models can also be had with leather seating surfaces, remote start, and a twin panel moon roof.

However, safety is paramount for families, and that's why you can cherry-pick or bundle every available safety feature on the entire Explorer line on this trim. The package includes essential blind-spot warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, and rain-sensing wipers. Other must-haves include stand-alone versions of the above, and a forward sensing system.

Excited by the opportunity of driving this formidable family vehicle? So are we--as our numerous financing deals might indicate! Those interested in the Explorer XLT for their next lease will find conquest specials with unbeatable, limited-time rates on this exact trim.
