What's New for the 2020 Ford Explorer?

One of the most recognizable names in the industry, and a mainstay in the SUV segment, the Ford Explorer returns for the 2020 model year with a complete redesign; including new drivetrains, greater seating and cargo capacities, and a long list of standard and available technologies. Here are some feature highlights of sixth-generation Ford Explorer.

More Power

Under the hood, the 2020 Escape is highly motivated by the base 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. It sends power to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The sport-focused ST trim raises excitement to new heights, courtesy of a 3.0-liter turbo-charged V-6. Making 400 horsepower and a 415 pound-feet of torque, it comes paired with performance features like 20-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, and sport front seats.

More Space

The 2020 Explorer features three rows of spacious seating for up to seven passengers, or six if you opt for second-row captain's chairs. Behind the rear seats, you'll find 18.2 cubic-feet of carrying space. The second and third rows fold easily, expanding available cargo space to a maximum 87.8 cubic feet.

Standard Co-Pilot360 Technology

A premium SUV should have premium features, and the new Ford Explorer delivers with tons of great tech across the five trim levels. Even at the base level, Explorer comes generously equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver's seat, an 8-inch SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a power lift gate. A full suite of Ford Co-Pilot360 technologies is also available for no extra cost, included driver-aids like:

  • BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Auto High-Beam Headlamps
  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pre-Collision Assist
  • Rear View Camera
  • Lane-Keeping System
