One aspect of the Ford Edge that separates it from the competition is the fact that it comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD). With the changing seasons and weather we experience here in Michigan, having AWD is extremely helpful since it can help you stay safely in control no matter what the road conditions.

By sending power to all four wheels, this system provides the traction needed to keep your Edge firmly moving forward across snowy, icy, or slippery roads. The Terrain comes standard with front-wheel drive and only offers AWD as an available upgrade.

How Much Space Is Inside the Edge vs Terrain?

When getting a new SUV, you'll be able not only to provide a comfortable ride for you and your passengers but also use the cabin space to pack up a variety of supplies when needed.

While both these models offer that versatility by allowing you to rearrange the seating, the Ford Edge comes with more overall space. Its cabin is full of 113.9 cubic feet of passenger volume along with 39.2 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second row of seating.

That means, you can load in luggage, shopping bags, or sporting equipment while also giving the kids or your friends plenty of room to enjoy a comfortable ride. You can also fold down the rear seats to create more room for cargo. This increases the cargo volume of the Edge to 73.4 cubic feet.

The GMC Terrain has 103.2 cubic feet of passenger volume. Beyond that, it has 29.6 cubic feet of cargo volume in the back. You can also fold down its rear seats, but at most, this provides just 63.3 cubic feet of cargo volume.

A High-Tech Driving Experience

Both these SUVs come standard with a sophisticated infotainment system, which features smartphone integration. This allows you to pair your phone right to the center display in either model so you can do everything from make calls and respond to texts to look up directions.

One major difference, though, is that the Ford Edge comes standard with a large 12-inch touchscreen display, while the GMC Terrain features a 7-inch touchscreen. Only the Edge offers an available dual-headrest DVD entertainment system, which lets the kids watch their favorite movies when traveling to visit relatives.

The Edge also offers some helpful safety technology you can't get with the GMC Terrain. Available Evasive Steering Assist can automatically steer you away from another car to help prevent a collision while available Enhanced Active Park Assist allows your Edge to park itself when trying to fit into a parallel spot in the city.
